You may be a victim of leaky gut syndrome and not even know it. It is estimated that today approximately 80% of the U.S. population is affected by leaky gut syndrome to one extent or another. So what is this syndrome, you ask? It is a rather serious condition where our intestines “leak” food particles and toxins into the bloodstream because of weak and damaged intestines. A leaky gut may also lead to increased food allergies, auto-immune diseases, eczema, diabetes, and perhaps even cancer.
What, then, is causing this increased occurrence of this leaky gut syndrome? Professionals of alternative medicine believe that it is genetically-modified organisms that are leading to this syndrome. Jeffrey Smith, author of Seeds of Deception, shows how GMO food, in particular Monsanto’s Bt corn, is causing this damage in our guts. In its native state, Bt (scientific name Bacillus thuringiensis) occurs naturally in soil and possesses inherent insecticidal properties. Scientists have since harnessed this Bt and inserted it into corn cells to create corn seeds that possess a natural insecticide property. How does Bt work to kill off insects? Well, by destroying the stomachs of insects of course.
According to Mr. Smith, there are plenty of peer-reviewed studies that support the observation that humans suffer flu-like and allergic symptoms when exposed to this insecticide. In addition, when tested on mice, Bt caused damage both to the immune systems and intestines of these animals. It is believed that Bt is causing this same damage to human intestines and literally creating holes and causing leakage in human intestines. This allows food and other items to enter the bloodstream directly, which can result in serious health issues. Although the connection between Monsanto’s Bt corn and damage to human bodies seems apparent, Monsanto claims that this is impossible because the insecticide is destroyed by the acids in our stomachs.
Unfortunately, the threat to human health is not restricted to Bt corn. Monsanto, according to Jeffrey Smith, purposely inserts bacteria into the crop to give it the ability to resist the poisonous effects of herbicides, such as RoundUp. In fact, according to Smith, individuals working for Monsanto noticed some bacteria that had survived a dose of RoundUp; they then collected this waste and inserted this bacteria into its corn to make it “herbicide-resistant.” Not only are humans consuming genetically-modified corn, but they are also consuming corn (and corn products) that have been drenched in RoundUp (also known as glysophates), which have also been linked to gut damage.
Needless to say, genetically modified corn should be avoided at all costs. Not only does it wreak havoc on your intestines, but Bt and glysophates have also been linked to infertility and birth defects, along with the autoimmune disorders, allergies, and other diseases mentioned earlier. To be sure that you and your family are not affected by these disastrous ingredients, avoid GMOs at all costs; this will mean avoiding most packaged and processed foods. Also, be sure to check the ingredients for all of your grocery store items carefully; genetically-modified corn often presents itself as corn oil, high-fructose corn syrup, and more.
